Why work with me?
1. I'm a creative thinker and researcher.
With advanced degrees in creative writing and literature from The University of Toronto and The University of Roehampton, a teaching certificate in language and literature from The University of Wales, I'm a cutting-edge researcher and creative thinker. I have Diploma in Dance Studies from Trinity Laban, two certificates in teaching yoga, a certificate in Reiki and a foundation certificate in Psychosynthesis Psychology, so I've pursued both research and writing in innovative ways that use the whole body and mind.
What does all that diverse training have to do with writing and editing? Well, beyond the training in creative practice, which helps me solve problems, add flair to any project and think outside the box, my education has taught me how to attune psychologically to the needs of clietns and to approach my work holistically. I believe those are key traits when working with individuals and businesses, whether they want to reach a target audience or just bet met where they are. People want and need to be understood.
2. I'm a versatile writer and editor with a fine-eye for detail.
With over ten years of editing for publications and agencies, my writing and creative work have appeared in The Globe & Mail, The CBC, Scrivener Literary Journal, Trafika, The Goose, ascent magazine and numerous online journals. I edit and write content for international media companies, small businesses and corporations. I've proofread books-in-translations, papers and dissertations from writers across disciplines.
3. I'm an international speaker and artist/writer-in-residence.
I've screened films, read my writing and given talks at international conferences including the Language, Landscape & The Sublime and In Other Tongues symposiums at Dartington Hall, England and the Biennial Conference of the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment, at Sheffield Hallam University in England. I was the artist-in-residence at The Burren College of Art in Ireland and the writer-in-residence at the Bath Arts Festival, in England. I'm a natural communicator and connector, who brings those traits to my work.
4. I'm a skilled project manager and leader.
From 2007 - 2010, I was one of the organizers of The Montreal Zen Poetry Festival, a small niche festival that began with a circle of poets and practitioners around 2005 and grew to be a critically acclaimed international arts festival of performances, workshops poetry and panel discussions surrounding Zen practice and the topic of words and their meanings. That's just one of the projects I've worked on.
5. I'm a trained teacher.
I've worked with a range of students throughout my career, from tutoring young children with story-telling, to working with writers in university to teaching literature and creative writing to adults.
